Create a layout

A Layout divides a screen into multiple independent areas (sections/zones) – so, for example, a presentation runs on the left and a social media feed on the right at the same time. In this guide you create your own layout step by step, assign content to each zone and publish it.

Purpose

With layouts you design how your content is arranged on the display. Instead of just a single full-screen Playlist, you can split the Screen into zones (e.g. main area + footer + sidebar) and give each zone its own app, Playlist or media file with its own display duration and its own schedule.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in to my.rstv.app and have the necessary permissions to edit layouts.
  • The content you want to display already exists (apps, Playlists or media) – or you create it later when assigning.
  • You know whether your display is mounted in landscape or portrait orientation.

Step 1: Create a new layout

  • Open the Layouts area in the left-hand navigation.
  • You see all existing layouts with their status (draft / published), orientation and number of contents.
  • Click „Neu Layout" (New layout) at the top right.

Step 2: Name & orientation

  • Assign a unique name for the layout.
  • Choose the orientation: landscape or portrait – matching your display.
  • Click „Weiter" (Next).

Step 3: Choose a template

Selecting the layout template: preset templates and your own custom templates
Selecting the layout template: preset templates and your own custom templates

Choose a division as a starting point. There are ready-made preset templates and your own saved custom templates.

  • Main – a single full-screen area.
  • Main + Footer / Main + Header – main area with a strip at the bottom or top.
  • Main + Left Bar / Main + Right Bar – main area with a sidebar.
  • Split Vertically / Split Horizontally – two equally sized halves.
  • Main + Left Bar + Footer – combination of sidebar and footer.

Click the desired template and confirm with „Confirm". You can fine-tune the division at any time afterwards in the editor.

Step 4: Position zones & assign content

In the editor you see each zone with its content on the left, and the settings per section on the right.

  • Position zones: For each section, set Links (Left), Top, Breite (Width) and Höhe (Height) in percent. The pixel dimensions (e.g. w: 1344, h: 1080) are calculated automatically. Optionally, give each zone a background color.
  • Assign content: Click „Inhalt bearbeiten" (Edit content) on the desired section and add apps, Playlists or media. For each content item you set the display duration and the schedule (e.g. „Täglich / Ganzen Tag" – Daily / All day).
  • Using the top toolbar you can copy, group or delete elements, upload a background and assign tags.
  • With „Vorschau" (Preview) you can check at any time how the layout looks on the display.

Step 5: Publish

  • Once you are satisfied, click „Veröffentlichen" (Publish) at the top right.
  • Only a published layout can be played on a Screen – drafts carry the note „Veröffentlichung erforderlich" (Publication required).
  • Then assign the layout to the desired display in the Screens area.

Tips & troubleshooting

Layout does not appear on the Screen

Check whether the layout is published (not just a draft) and whether it has been assigned to the Screen under „Screens".

Zones do not fit the display

Check the orientation (landscape/portrait) and the percentage values. The sum of the widths of adjacent zones should equal 100%.

A zone's content stays empty

Open the zone's „Inhalt bearbeiten" (Edit content) and make sure at least one element with a valid schedule is set.

Reuse a template

Your own divisions appear next time as a custom template – this lets you build recurring layouts faster.
