ahead intranet

ahead intranet · Premium — connects your ahead account with revolutionSCREEN. Once connected, your intranet news is displayed automatically on the screens – according to your channel/stream settings and in the desired language.

Purpose

With the ahead integration you bring content from the ahead intranet onto the screens without manual maintenance: as soon as new news appears in ahead, revolutionSCREEN picks it up automatically. This keeps your workforce informed at all times – across locations and countries – without anyone having to enter content twice.

Use cases

This is what ahead intranet looks like on the screen – examples from a live instance:

Requirements

  • An active revolutionSCREEN account with access to my.rstv.app.
  • An existing ahead account incl. login credentials (for the connection).
  • At least one configured screen for playback.
  • Since ahead is a Premium app: the corresponding activation in your account.

Install the app

Open my.rstv.app and go to Apps. You'll find the app store under „Erkunden" (Explore). Scroll in the Alle (All) list to the ahead intranet tile (category Internal communication · News · Office tools) and click it.

App store: click the „ahead intranet" tile in the app list.
App store: click the „ahead intranet" tile in the app list.

The detail page opens with a short description and preview images. If the app is not yet installed, first click Installieren (Install). Then (or if it already says Installiert / Installed) click Neue Instanz (New instance).

What is an instance?

An instance is a specific, configured output of the app – i.e. a connected ahead source with its display settings. You can create multiple instances (e.g. per channel or language) and assign them to different screens.

Manage instances

After clicking, you land in the app's instance management. Here you see existing instances and create another one with Neue Instanz (New instance, top right).

Instance management: create a new instance via „Neue Instanz" at the top right.

Connect your ahead account

In the editor, enter an instance name at the top (field „Type here …") and you can set tags as well as choose the format (portrait/landscape) at the top right. The crucial first step is on the left under Access / Zugang: click einloggen (log in) and sign in with your ahead account. As long as there is no connection, the live preview on the right shows „No content found!".

First-time connection: on the left under „Access", connect the ahead account via „einloggen" (log in).

Check the connection

If no content appears after logging in, check in ahead whether the selected channel/stream contains news and is released for display.

Configuration in detail

Once the account is connected, Zugang (Access) shows a green logged in (including the workspace name, here „Revolution Screen 1"; use the pencil icon to switch accounts). On the right, the live preview runs with real ahead news – every change on the left is applied immediately.

The settings in the left area – field by field:

  • Zugang: connected ahead account / workspace (status logged in).
  • Logo: upload / select your own logo via Bilder (Images).
  • Layout: arrangement of image and text, e.g. image left, text right.
  • Text: text color (e.g. #FFFFFF = white).
  • Hintergrundfarbe: board background color (e.g. #000000 = black).
  • Primäre / Sekundäre Schriftart: fonts for title and body text (e.g. D-DIN-Bold / D-DIN).
  • Sprache: display language of the news (e.g. german).
  • Beiträge: number of news items displayed (e.g. 12).
  • Dauer (sek.): display duration per item in seconds (e.g. 10).
  • Standardbild: fallback image used when an item has no image of its own.
  • Bild strecken: scale the image to fill the format (toggle).
  • Kanal / Author / QR Code / Html anzeigen: show or hide individual elements per item.
  • Scrollspeed: the speed at which longer texts scroll through (e.g. normal).

Check readability

In the live preview, make sure there is enough contrast between text and background color. Fewer but easy-to-read items with a short display duration work best on the screen.

Save & play on the screen

  1. Name the instance, connect the ahead account and configure the appearance.
  2. Save with Speichern & Schliessen (Save & Close) at the top right.
  3. The instance is now available under the app.
  4. Assign it to your screen – directly as content or embedded in a Layout or a Playlist.
  5. At the next sync, the ahead news appear on the display and update automatically.

Display duration in Playlist & Layout

ahead intranet shows several posts one after another per instance. If you embed the instance in a Playlist or a Layout, you control how long it runs via the element duration. To do this, click the Dauer (duration) of the app element in the Playlist.

Note: This logic applies to all apps with multiple posts per instance - e.g. ahead, SharePoint or Gallery.

Click the duration of the app element in the Playlist.
Click the duration of the app element in the Playlist.

In the Elementdauer bearbeiten (edit element duration) dialog, the pro Post (per post) switch decides between two variants:

Variant 1: pro Post = OFF (total duration)

The set time is the total duration of the instance. Example 00:01:40 (100 seconds): The instance is shown for 100 seconds. During this time the posts play in sequence and start over again if needed - so depending on the time, not necessarily all posts are shown (or some may be shown multiple times).

pro Post = OFF: the time applies as the total duration of the instance.
pro Post = OFF: the time applies as the total duration of the instance.

Variant 2: pro Post = ON (duration per post)

The set time applies per post. Example 00:00:10: Each post is shown for exactly 10 seconds. With 12 posts, all 12 posts are shown for 10 seconds each (total duration 120 seconds). This ensures that every post really appears.

pro Post = ON: the time applies per post - all posts are shown.
pro Post = ON: the time applies per post - all posts are shown.
Rule of thumb

Every post should be sure to appear? Turn on pro Post and set the seconds per post. Fixed time specification (e.g. for the timing of a Playlist)? Leave pro Post off and set the total duration.

Tips & troubleshooting

Preview stays empty

Connect the ahead account via einloggen (log in) and check whether the channel/stream contains news.

Too many / too few news

Control the number via the Beiträge (posts) field, and the pace per post via Dauer (sek.) (duration in sec.).

Post without image

Set a default image – it steps in when a post has no image of its own.

News do not appear

Check whether the instance is assigned to the correct screen/Layout and the Player is online.
